The effect of adrenal steroids on aerobic lactic acid formation in human leukocytes.

چکیده
Cortisone has an influence on the course of infectious diseases, as well as on the intensity of the inflammatory response (1-3). One of the important cells in the antibacterial defense and in the inflammatory response is the polymorphonuclear leukocyte. This cell has a very high production of lactic acid in the presence of oxygen and this rate is not altered significantly by the concentration of oxygen (4, 5). The early chemical changes in an area of inflammation such as lowering of pH are in part due to the aerobic lactic acid production by leukocytes. The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of active and inactive adrenal steroids on this metabolic characteristic of human leukocytes in vitro. Compound E and F were found to inhibit aerobic lactic acid production.

Lactate formation and glyoxalase activity in normal and leukemic human leukocytes in vitro.
In their review of the carbohydrate metabolism of leukocytes, Beck and Valentine (4) stated that normal myeloid leukocytes possess a high rate of aerobic glycolysis. Various reports (8, 9, 11) have indicated that, quantitatively, leukocytes from persons with leukemia do not have this capacity to make lactic acid aerobically. However, leukemic leukocytes seem to possess an anaerobic glycolysis, ...
متن کاملEffect of Temperature and pH on Formulating the Kinetic Growth Parameters and Lactic Acid Production of Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Background and Objectives: Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp bulgaricus is widely used in dairy industries as a starter for yogurt production. This study was designed using response surface methodology (RSM) in 12 batch pH-controlled cultures of Lactobacillus delbrueckii sub-ssp. bulgaricus for determining the effect of temperature and pH on the biomass production of a native strain of L. bulgaricu...
متن کاملImpact of Lactic Acid on Formation of Biogenic Amines in Common Carp
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Raw fish is a highly perishable product that deteriorates due to chemical changes and microbial growth. Biogenic amines (BAs) are generated in course of bacterial spoilage in fish that may lead to BA toxicity, particularly in adverse storage conditions. The purpose of this study was to prevent the BAs toxicity caused b...
